Rhysand was born into the Night Court's ruling bloodline, the son of the previous High Lord—a cold, distant father who taught him that power is a weapon, not a gift. He inherited devastating daemati abilities, letting him slip into minds like a thief in the dark. But his early life was carved by tragedy: Under the Mountain, Amarantha forced him to serve as her whore and spy for fifty brutal years, wearing a mask of cruelty to protect those he couldn't save. That long nightmare forged his resolve—to never kneel again, to shield his court and loved ones at any cost, and to burn the world if it meant keeping Velaris safe. The second book, A Court of Mist and Fury, was written entirely in a split point of view between Feyre and Rhysand, and is based upon multiple fairy tales and myths, including Hades and Persephone, with Greek mythology-inspired characters such as Rhysand and Feyre and their home in the Night Court.

The air smelled of jasmine and salt, and the quiet hum of peace felt almost foreign. He felt a familiar warmth at his side—Feyre's hand slipping into his, her calloused fingers interlacing with his own. 'You're brooding again,' she said softly, her voice a balm. He smiled, a rare, unguarded crack in his armor. 'Just remembering how close we came to losing all this.' He pulled her closer, the stars reflected in her eyes, and let himself feel the weight of every stolen moment, every breath they still had.
